Frabel's botanical exhibition "Life in the Gardens - Frabel at Phipps", opened on May 20, 2009. This is the largest exhibition at Botanical Gardens Frabel has ever done and every time the exhibition becomes a bit bigger. Two 53ft tractor trailers were needed to transport all the glass to this beautiful botanical garden and it took a group of 15 people 7 long days to get everything installed.

There are 2 new installations at this exhibition. The first one is the "Longfellow Gravity" installation, that consists of 3 large cubes that seem to tumble down a hill into a pond, surrounded by 14 Longfellows in different sizes that look and see this all happen, but are able to play during all of this. It is about seeing fun and enjoyment, even when things around you are not as easy as they once may have been. The second installation that was new is the "Tower", a large version of a sculpture Frabel created somewhere in the late 1970's titled: "Tower of Babel".

Phipps is one of oldest and largest Conservatories in the United States. The building as well as all the plants and flowers inside are just breathtaking and deserve a visit. Besides all the wonderful nature, Phipps has introduced lots of technology that reduces their footprint on our environment. Phipps is using special glass that keeps the heat inside in winter and stays cools in summer. There are special shields to keep the heat out in summer, a Fuel-Cell system created by Siemens that creates Hydrogen out of Natural gas and then converts that into energy at an efficiency of 80%(!) and the cups and cutlery used in their cafeteria are 100% biodegradable and made from plants only (corn for a clear plastic looking cup and potatoes, believe it or not, for the cutlery).

July 21, 2007 - February 24, 2008

A Taste for Chocolate explores the varied uses of cacao over the centuries and the cultural influence of chocolate on society. The exhibition traces chocolate’s historical and cultural evolution with approximately fifty examples of decorative arts and historical artifacts dating from the Aztec and Maya civilizations through the 20th century. These items are drawn from the Bruce Museum collection, private collectors, and institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum, American Museum of Natural History, New York Botanical Garden, Gardiner Museum in Toronto, and Wilbur Chocolate’s Americana Museum in Lititz, Pennsylvania.

The scientific name Theobroma cacao reflects the notion that the tropical cacao tree was once thought to provide the “food of the gods.” Depicted by crystal glass, Hans Godo Fräbel created the, “Cacao pod with leaf and branch on base” circa 1984. This excuisite sculpture is currently on exhibit at the Bruce Museum, loaned by a Private Collector. Designed by Hans Godo Fräbel and Fräbel Artist, Tung Bui. The twoclear crystal glass wheels mounted on a concaved black base with a colored outline peach affixed above the wheels; exemplifies the race and the State of Georgia in abstract formation. Fräbel has donated the Tour de Georgia awards since 2003 and is proud to assist in the benefits for the Georgia Cancer Coalition. The Artists along with the Fräbel Art Society took great honor in the creation and presentation of the awards and look forward to the creation for the 2008 Tour de Georgia awards

<![CDATA[Tour de Frabel]]> http://www.frabelglass.com/news/tour-de-frabel

Over the past four years, 2.3 million spectators have attended the Tour de Georgia to watch 15 of the best national and international cycling teams race over 600 miles. Close to 4,000 volunteers have dedicated their time and efforts to making the event safe for everyone. Millions more followed the progress of the Tour de Georgia in newspapers, on radio and television reports, and on the web each day.

Tools have empowered human beings since the early Stone Age. The Hechinger Collection celebrates the mundane tool – the hammer, the saw, the rake, the paintbrush – as a point of departure for the creation of artworks that are at once beautiful, surprising, and sometimes humorous. The exhibition suggests new ways to look at these utilitarian objects, highlighting the artist’s act of creation and emphasizing the simple point that artists utilize tools – sometimes fashioned by themselves – to produce artworks. The collection offers a broad range of relationships between tools and art: tools can be a metaphor for creation, for labor, and for art. Tools as Art is also a time capsule, documenting changes in means of production – from hand labor to industrialized assembly to computer-generated output.

The Hechinger Collection came into being in 1978 when the hardware industry pioneer John Hechinger found that his new company headquarters in Landover, Maryland, was efficient but sterile. To counteract this lack of soul, Hechinger began collecting art that focused on the company’s very livelihood and exhibited it throughout the building to inspire employees.
